The Euro+Med PlantBase (http://ww2.bgbm.org/EuroPlusMed/ [accessed on 11 Jan 2011]) mentions the occurrence of subspecies bithynicus in Cyprus. Since Meikle (1985) published his critical remark on the infraspecific taxonomy of the species no systematic studies have been made in Cyprus. We prefer to treat the species s. l. for the time being.
